Post the success of the Cardigan Release I have been posed with a question on the future of the Milkbar Knitwear Line that I'd like to bring you all into today.
For those who haven't noticed already the Cardigans were 100% Australian Merino Wool and made Locally in a factory I found in Melbourne.
With that also brings a hefty price point, for me to produce and then the consumer as well. These Cardigans were priced cheaper then they should have been in comparison to what I get charged to manufacture them locally in Australia with Australian Yarn.
I sacrificed profit in an effort to continue to promote locally made, it seemed only right as I love the relationship I have with this new factory and as my other more complex pieces will have to be made off shore I thought what can I do to give Knitwear a chance at staying local.
The reality is this drop has been a success because of all the oldies that happened to walk past the Pop Up Store in Collingwood and appreciated that the Cardigan was made locally, recognising that it was a bargain for what it was. I always loved the idea that people of any age could wear Milkbar and it would still be appropriate due to me trying to design the garments as timeless as possible but this was the first time I saw it at play.
In saying that I recognise that these items and ethical manufacturing as a whole is a luxury, younger people including myself can't always afford the luxury of supporting ethical businesses.
To keep the knitwear range made locally it would mean the prices going even higher for it to be sustainable so I wanted to pose the question to you all.
Do we keep the whole line here with the increased price point or do we take it overseas as the rest of the outerwear and shirting range will be produced?
All those who reply back today with their thoughts will receive a discount code for their help in developing the future of Milkbar.
