Sometimes I forget that people don't know what I'm doing/workin on when I don't post for 3 months. Recently I've made an effort to keep you all in the loop outside of drop times through story posts, tiktoks and these blogs. Often when working on something creatively there's a lot of ideas you put a lot of time into that never see the light of day and others that you continue to delay because they weren't right.
For example earlier this year with the beata singlet release I was meant to drop a fitted raglan tee until weeks before the release I found out production was fucked indefinitely. A lot of time and money down the drain.
The big fucking whale I wanted to address today is the Wog Collection. My mates know this is something I've been working on since the start of Milkbar. Inspired by the history of the inner Northern Suburbs, over the years piecing together aspects of culture the past generations have brought. Stories of Carlton and Fitzroy in the 60s and 70s, walking relics of those times in old Italian and Greek men I see playin cards at the park. Overall with Milkbar I aim to be observational about what we have around us, put that into a collection, tie a bow around it and present it back to Melbourne.
Learning more about production and aspects of designing more complex pieces such as outerwear is what makes me continue to delay stuff like this. Overall it has been slow to jump beyond Tees and Fleece only because when i do I want them to be right so I can be consistent with those new offerings from then on. If I learnt anything with the Beatas it's that it pays off delaying a garment to perfection.
On my story today I'll attach some images of the progress but will link the pinterest board here: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/milkbarmelbourne/wog-collection/
